Socialism, property taxes: Reducing the burden

Kudos to State Rep. Allen Peake for his valiant efforts and much-needed proposal to eliminate the increasingly burdensome property taxes in the state of Georgia. No one should be surprised that Mr. Frank Gadbois is against it! His aversion to individual freedom and free market capitalism is well known. Instead, Mr. Gadbois is for “progressive taxation,” confiscatory, class warfare socialism first enunciated by Karl Marx in the second plank of his Communist Manifesto (1848), in which he called for “a heavy, progressive or graduated income tax.”

Thanks to the Woodrow Wilson administration and those who labored to change this country from a republic to a social democracy, progressive taxation came to pass in 1913.

The middle class was seduced into accepting progressive taxation because its proponents claimed it was only aimed at the top 5 percent of the population. During World War II, taxes increased to include the middle class who accepted it as a hardship war tax. The cold war is now over, but heavy taxation remains in property taxes, income taxes, death taxes, etc. The middle class has simply fallen in the same deepening hole they intended for the super rich. Socialism has been creeping into our nation steadily ever since.

Current property taxes are excessive, and they are not helping the dismal real estate market situation or the tragic litany of foreclosures afflicting our state. Moreover, this heavy taxation (and proposed increases) is not proving cost-effective, as national (and once again, particularly Georgia) SAT scores and the substandard level of scholastic public education achievement amply testify. We simply are not getting our money’s worth in education for our hard earned, property tax dollars.

Obviously, for Mr. Gadbois, fairness means socialism and wealth redistribution for social engineering projects; for Mr. Peake, it means reducing the tax burden and protecting the homes of Middle Georgia families.
